Ammoniaporine, AQP8, was discovered in the epidermis. It could be at the centre of urea metabolism by promoting the entry of the ammonium ion into the mitochondria or by promoting its expression in the epidermis.
ReadIn 2007 Pierre-Yves Morvan presented our initial work on the discovery of AQP8 in human keratinocytes at the Stratum Corneum Symposium in Cardiff. His presentation was award winning and 8 months later Hydrasalinol received an innovation prize for its stimulating action on AQP8 synthesis.
